swDesk Releases Optional Module for Potential MySQL Permissions Issue

The swDesk Online Ticket Support system has been specifically designed for high speed performance under high traffic volume and heavy customer service activity. Therefore, the swDesk requirements include MySQL 4.0 or higher and the ability for the database user to create temporary tables.

Version 4.0 of the MySQL Database Management System does not allow sub-queries, and the proper method to optimize queries for large databases is to invoke the use of temporary tables. There are some hosting companies that do not provide the ability to create temporary tables. This problem mostly appears in virtual or shared hosting environments. swDesk's development team has created an optional patch with updated modules that do not require permissions to create temporary tables. This technique was used to achieve optimal results, while degradation in speed for larger databases is only 15% for the technicians area compared to the version where temporary tables are enabled.

This difference will be virtually unnoticeable to installations of swDesk with less that 100 technicians and users with moderate traffic volumes. If your hosting plan allows the permission to create temporary tables, we do not recommend the installation of this patch. Otherwise, if your hosting provider does not allow the use of temporary tables, you may download the patch from your clients area at swdesk.com/clients/.
